What is the D-tick?
The D-tick is a food approval system designed to make it easy for people managing their blood sugar to identify healthy food options. The D-tick symbol highlights foods that are nutritionally suitable for people managing their blood sugar levels.
Only products meeting the specific nutrition criteria are permitted to carry the D-tick. The nutrition criteria behind the D-tick are developed by Accredited Practising Dietitians and approved by Australian Diabetes Council.
D-tick considers the complete nutritional value of a meal promoting foods that:
- Are low GI
- Are a suitable portion size
- Promote the consumption of important nutrients such as vegetables and fibre
- Limit the intake of saturated fat and sodium
- Are carbohydrate and energy controlled
